Veterinary Services
The Fort Benning Veterinary Clinic provides post registration, preventative wellness care, and sick call care to the pets of military ID card holders of all branches (active duty and retired). Surgical and dental services are available on a limited basis. Heartworm prevention and flea/tick control products are offered to clients of the facility. The friendly staff is ready to help you with any questions you have about your pets' health.
We do not provide pet adoption services. Tri County Animal Rescue picks up stray animals on post and can be reached at 478-862-2226.
Families are allowed no more than two (2) pets per home unless and exception to policy is approved by the Garrison Commander. Families who own more than two (2) pets on the date of publication of USAIC Reg 210-5 are grandfathered and may keep them during their residence on Fort Benning.
The following pure bred and crosses between the listed dog breeds will not be allowed on the installation, except in Veterinary Services: Pit Bulls, Chows, Rottweilers, Doberman Pinchers, and Presa Canarios, unless an exception of policy is approved by the Garrison Commander.
Wild, Exotic or Live Stock Animals are not allowed in family housing areas, and additional pets are not allowed without permission of the Garrison Commander.
Owners are responsible for properly registering, immunizing, and controlling their pets. Owners must provide humane care, sanitary facilities, and proper treatment of their pets. Each pet kept outside must have adequate and humane housing. The area around the pet housing must be kept clean of fecal matter and excess food particles. Overhead cover must be provided to protect the pet from the weather.
Pets being walked outside must be on a short leash and at the heel around others. Owners are responsible for their pet's feces when walking them. Pets are prohibited from playgrounds, youth sports fields, school grounds, or at any gathering that includes persons other than the owner's family and personally invited guests of the owner and his/her family.
The owner must take a pet that bites someone to the installation veterinarian for examination and quarantine. Pets will remain quarantined until a request for release is processed through the Veterinary Corps Officer (VCO) and the Garrison Commander authorizes release.
Owners will prevent pets from being a nuisance, and will not allow their pets to stray.
All sponsors, who live in government assigned quarters, are responsible for the removal of domestic or non-domestic animals that are found dead within their area of police responsibility. If the pet owner are away for extended periods (ie. TDY, deployed, field problems) it is the Soldier's unit's responsibility for removal of the carcass.
Violations of USAIC Reg 201-5 or USAIC Reg 40-905 can result in removal of pet ownership privileges. Repeat violations of the above mentioned regulations may results in loss of government quarters.

A fit dog is a happy, well-behaved dog! Fort Benning has two dog parks, one on the corner of Edwards and Carpenter streets on Main Post, and another at the youth sports complex (Blue and French fields) on 1st Division Road. These parks, managed by Outdoor Recreation, include agility playground equipment. Pet owners must clean up after their dogs immediately and monitor their behavior. All dogs must be:
- registered at Fort Benning Vet Services, and have shot records on file there (call 706-545-4444)
- wear collar with current rabies tag
- be off-leash only in the park and leashed upon exiting
- be under voice control of owner at all times
- be accompanied by an adult, 18 or older
Dog Wash
Attached to the Main Post car wash, our do-it-yourself, climate controlled dog wash is the first of it's kind on a U.S. military installation. The coin-operated booth features an adjustable platform, washing and drying, flea and tick bathing options. The booth is automatically sterilized after each use.
