Fort Benning has a regulation that covers Single Soldier Quality of Life. Issues covered in this regulation will be overridden by the unit Chain of Command if the unit already has a policy in place regarding the issue in question. The unit's Barracks SOP will also override the regulation.

Can my Chain of Command do routine room inspections on my room and should I be present in my room during inspections?

Per USAIC Regulation 600-19 (Single Soldier Quality of Life) Paragraph 3-6 covers Inspections and states: "Commanders will retain full authority and responsibility to conduct health and welfare and other inspections and to enter/or authorize others to enter rooms, under appropriate circumstances, such as proper searches. The necessary inspections or check made by the leadership can and should be accomplished in a manner without harassing Soldiers. The frequency of these checks should be determined by the condition of existing facilities and the demonstrated performance of each Soldier. Unit Single Soldier Quarters SOPs, which incorporate the provisions of this regulation, will be the inspection standard. Common use areas: i.e., stairwells, landings, hallways, showers, latrines, laundry areas, and day rooms will continue to be inspected on a daily basis."

What is the policy for alcohol in the barracks?

Per USAIC Regulation 600-19 (Single Soldier Quality of Life) Paragraph 3-8 covers Alcohol and states: "Use of alcohol is authorized; abuse of alcohol is not. There are no restrictions on the type or amount of alcohol stored or consumed in Soldiers quarters by any Soldier 21 years of age or older. Soldiers below the legal drinking age will not store or purchase alcohol, nor will it be stored or purchased for them. It is a violation of Georgia state law to be in possession of alcohol unless 21 years of age or older. If requested, every effort will be made to assign non-drinkers with other non-drinkers."

Are visitors allowed in the barracks?

Per USAIC Regulation 600-19 (Single Soldier Quality of Life) Paragraph 3-9 Covers Visitations and states: "Liberal visitation is authorized within the following guidelines:

a. Visitors and length of their stay must be agreed upon by all occupants of a room prior to the visit. Visitors will not be allowed to move freely about the barracks but will sign in with the Charge of Quarters (if utilized) and be escorted by the Soldier they are visiting at all times.
b. Nonmilitary visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent of legal guardian.
