Army Emergency Relief AER provides emergency financial assistance to Soldiers (active & retired) and their dependant Family Members in times of distress. Categories of authorized emergency financial assistance are: (1) Non-receipt of pay; (2) Loss of funds- the loss has to be reported to the military or civilian police; (3) Medical, dental, and hospital expenses not covered by TRICARE; (4) Funeral expenses; (5) Required travel due to emergency leave/travel and convalescent leave; (6) Rent or mortgage; (7) Utilities; (8) Essential POV repair and/or maintenance; (9) fire or disaster.
Food Voucher assistance is available as a last resort. There must be a specific reason why Soldier or Family Member cannot obtain an AER loan/grant. Additional AER programs include scholarships for dependent children and spouses of active duty Soldiers, dependent children of retirees, or dependent children of deceased active or retired Soldiers.
